Pineapple Gang 7th Annual Tuna Hunter Cod Charter

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Pineapple Gang 7th Annual Tuna Hunter Cod Charter

For the seventh year in a row, the Pineapple Gang’s Gloucester cod fishing charter aboard Tuna Hunter was a big success.

The entire family are great anglers, and certainly know how to have a great time. No messing around here. It was serious fishing: as soon as we reached the fishing grounds, jigs hit the water.  Fish hit jigs more than bait, as has been the usual lately.

PineappleGangCod10

This year the team amassed a boatload of fish, cod, haddock and a large cusk.  Yes, cusk are good eating.
We look forward to sharing a day with these guys each year.

While we were cod fishing last weekend, the bluefin tuna action remains strong. Bluefin of varying sizes are all over, being taken by kite, balloons, live and dead bait,  some of jigs even. So be prepared for anything!

Inshore the striped bass fishing is good, despite the commercial season. Tuna Hunter’s evening bass charters have been particularly successful.  It was great to host the Arasian family again this week – with Dad again taking top fish. Photos coming!

Tuna Hunter has mid-week openings for full charters and singles – give us a call at 978-407-1351 or email captain@tunahunter.com for the latest openings.  Check for weekend cancellations – we’ll do our best to fit you in.  Good fishing to you!

Gloucester Bluefin Battle Continues – Norris Success

The Gloucester bluefin tuna action continues to be strong out on Stellwegen Bank, as the Norris family can attest.  Greg, Bill and Kyle battled two bluefin to the boat, both just shy of the regulation 73 inches, so they were tagged, revived and released by the Tuna Hunter crew.

Tag and release makes for much less glamorous bluefin tuna photos, but Greg’s skill with the camera gives us this series on tagging and reviving a bluefin tuna.  Let’s hope we see this fish again next year.

Once tagged, we “Swim” the fish alongside the boat to revive it  prior to safe release.

Not to be left out, son Alex managed the live bait situation, perhaps the most critical part of the operation.  We look forward to seeing Alex on the rod in a year or so!

Tuna Hunter employs a variety of bait, tackle and fishing techniques to match the conditions of the day, including live bait.  The bluefin fishing is challenging this year, demanding extra effort to get the fish to bite, so you get to fight them.  We always have the full arsenal on board, ready to go. Call us for the latest openings – Friday on the water, battling a bluefin.  Or why not Monday?  That next hook-up could be yours – call 978-407-1351 or email captain@tunahunter.com.

Cod Fishing Charter aboard Kaman Charters

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010
Kayman Cod 2Kayman Cod 1Stellwagon to Tillies Banks have been loaded with fish! Top feeding Pollock are the newest addition to the Gulf of Maine. Weekend boaters chasing birds like they do for Bass and Blues are finding schools of Pollock gorging on eels! These Pollock are from 4-20 plus pounds and will put your rod to the gunwale when hooked! This has been a great addition to the already good Cod and Haddock fishing!
Codfish come in by the boatload on some days and are caught only by the skillful anglers on others. Cod in the twenty pound range have been top catch the past week with high catch a 33 lber brought in by Rob Noble of Ct.His catch was a 18lb Pollock on the teaser and his pool winning Cod on the jig. He ate his lunch after that one!

Gloucester Cod Fishing – AT&T Double Double Headers on Tuna Hunter

The AT&T Guys had a great Gloucester cod fishing charters aboard Tuna Hunter.

Tuna Hunter Cod 1

A typical of recent charters, the morning was slow, so Tuna Hunter moved around Stellwagen and changed tactics to locate hungry fish. The moves paid off when they dropped jigs and bait into a pod of large cod. double headers of 20 – 30 lb cod kept the guys for AT&T busy for the rest of the day.

Cod Fishing Report From Stellwagon Bank

Friday, May 21st, 2010

The Neversink Gun Club guys had a great outing aboard Tuna Hunter – Gloucester Cod Fishing at its finest.

Tuna Hunter ventured to the Mussels on Stellwagon Bank for the early morning bite, then switched to various other cod hot spots to round out the day. Fish responded mostly to jigs this fay, but we all know that changes day to day – Tuna Hunter adapts to keep you catching all day long.

Spring Cod Fishing aboard Tuna Hunter

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Spring cod fishing has arrived! Finally we can all get back out on the water for some great bottom fishing.

Phil’s Crew spent a fine day cod fishing last Saturday aboard Tuna Hunter.  They traveled to the Mussels for the morning bite, then moved to various favorite holes around Stellwagen Bank to round out the trip.  Fishing was fantastic -the best bite being early in the day on jigs, but Phil’s Crew reeled in keepers all day long.  Papa was high hook.

Gloucester Cod fishing will be strong all through May and into the summer. Call Tuna Hunter at 978-407-1351 or email captain@tunahunter.com for the latest openings.  Spring is time to fill you cooler, and soak up those gorgeous springs days on the water. Fish Gloucester on Tuna Hunter – we look forward to fishing with you!

Excellent Haddock Fishing
Before April 15th Available

Clients boating 130-200 haddock per trip!

Weekends and Weekday Openings

The Lisa&Jake made its first run this week. The new heat/AC unit provided a very comfortable wheel house temp for those who chose to stay in the cabin. If the A/C works as good I am sure to have a lot of company in the summer. The new gelcoat job on the boat’s exterior has not suffered any slamming weights yet – I am sure this will be short lived! New Transmission and a new wheel gave the boat a nice smooth, quiet ride to and from the fishing grounds.

Lisa & Jake Fishing Charter Boat

Out on the Haddock grounds where we went were fish plentiful for the clam dunkers. Capt Rob will be piloting the Kayman Too again this year – he has been putting anglers on some great Haddock so far this spring! On off days Rob and Beard have been fabricating some custom items for the boat to keep things neat and accessible.
