SHIMANO RAPID FIRE DRAG CAMS FOR TORSA 40

SKU: SHMTSRF40     (Add to wish list)
Shimano's Unique Rapid Fire Drag Cam System for Torsa 40

Long Range Special

This cam comes standard on the Torsa 40. It is an “all-around” curve with many uses. The L.R.S. curve was originally designed for the Tiagra anglers on the Long Range boats out of San Diego. These anglers required high maximum drag capabilities in smaller reels to catch large yellowfin tuna in standup situations. The result is a steep curve to allow the use of heavy lines while maintaining Freespool.

80# Bottom Fishing Special

This curve will primarily be used in the Gulf of Mexico when bottom fishing next to heavy structure like oil platforms. When fishing, the angler needs to place a tremendous amount of drag on the fish to move it away from the structure quickly. As soon as the angler moves the fish or turns its head, he will then quickly back off the drag to the Strike position at 1/3–1/2 the breaking strength of the line. From here until he lands the fish, he will fight it with a traditional drag range and not go back into the Full position again, unless the fish begins to run back into the structure. This curves allows a very high Full position setting, but quickly backs off to a safe area at the Strike setting so that the angler does not accidentally back off too much drag. Anglers will primarily use 80# test.

U.F.S.

This cam will be used when in Hawaii for catching Ulua from shore. The anglers will cast from shore and leave the rod in the rocks. The Warning needs to be light enough that when the fish bites it does not pull the rod from the rocks. Most of this fishing is done at night and the angler can not see the bite. Then there will be a gradual curve to the target drag setting of 7 lbs. This setting is lighter than normal, but due to Shimano’s smooth drag, the lighter setting is better. Most anglers that set higher, so this to avoid some much jerking. From Strike to Full the curve should be very steep, to get as much drag as possible. This is done to turn the fish quickly.

20# D.N.K.

This cam will be used for dink fishing in Florida for sailfish. The angler will typically use 20# test. The low amount of drag at Warning is to barely keep the bait in the outrigger. After the fish hits the angler will use the drag from the ½ position to the Strike position to fight the fish. At the end of the fight, or if the angler needs to move the fish they will use the very steep Full position to apply heavy drag.

30-40# D.N.K.

This cam will be used for dink fishing in North Carolina for marlin. The angler will typically use 30-40# test. The low amount of drag at warning is to barely keep the bait in the outrigger. After the fish hits the angler will use the drag from the 1/2 position to the Strike position to fight the fish. At the end of the fight, or if the angler needs to move the fish they will use the very steep Full position to apply heavy drag.

Chunk Fishing Special

This cam will be used when fishing chunk bait in heavy currents. The slow ramp from Warning to 1/2 allows the reel to hold the float in the current. The sudden steep section allows the angler to quickly get enough drag for a solid hookset. Target Strike drag is 15 lbs. This cam will primarily be used in the 40-size reel with 50#- 60# line.
