The big advantage with a wind-on leader is that there is no need to use a swivel to connect to a heavier leader and the leader can be as long as you want, allowing you bring fish under control without the help of a wireman. Connected to your mainline utilizing a loop-to-loop connection, these leaders will pass through any style guides, with minimal resistance, just be sure you leave enough room on the top of your spool for the leader to fit.

Wind on leaders allow you to add either a suitable leader to a reel filled entirely with braided line, with a connection that is near 100% strength. Great for jigging and casting reels where the connection must be as strong as possible. Also a great addition to trolling reels where you want to have a little extra heft in the line when the fish is near the boat, especially handy when running spreader bars on lighter reels.
